About Us

Mike Healy

Trowbridge Zen Judo club was Founded by Sensei Mike Healy (4th Dan ZJF and 5th Dan BZJFA) who practised Judo for nearly 30 years running several clubs both in the UK and in Germany. He has been awarded 5th Dan for his service to Judo.

He had the good fortune to learn Zen Judo from the late Shihan Dominick Mac McCarthy 8th Dan who had formulated the Zen Judo syllabus back in 1974 (based on the original Kyu shin do Judo).

Mike has never run any club for profit, believing that Judo is for the benefit of all. The reward is in watching the growth in confidence and ability of children and adults alike both on and off the mat.

We are happy to share learning with other 'Gentle' martial arts clubs and we have had many trips to other clubs so that we continue to improve our understanding. As such we are members of the International Gentle Arts Society and the Zen Judo Family.

Following Mike Healy's retirement from Judo, the running of the club has passed to the current Dan Grade
